This page will go into depth about what work was done by the team and what work was done by parties outside of the team. It will also describe the individual responsibilities and involvements as well acknowledge all the help we received during this project.

What the team did

This segment will describe the work conducted by the team in different areas. The areas that will be covered are: Laboratory work, Presentation development, Fundrasing and Human Practice .

Laboratory work

The LiU iGEM team did the entire project's laboratory work including managing difficult technique (e.g. programming of spectrophotometers and construct design) and data analysis.

Presentations

Posters and presentations was solely done by the team.

Fundraising

Fundraising was performed by the team members.

Human practice

The team contacted nearly all the organisations and individuals involved in the human practice collaboration.

Wiki

The wiki was constructed by the team and written by all the members of LiU iGEM 2019.

Individual responsibilities and involvements in the project

To make everybody in the team involved, each member had at least one area of responsibility and was involved in multiple other activities. Since the laboratory work is the core of LiU iGEM, everyone was required to be involved in the laboratory process. Below is a table describing each individual work in LiU iGEM, each member had a primary responsibility and multiple areas of involvement.

Table 1. The table below describes each individuals responsibilities and involvements in LiU iGEM. The first row describes the individuals primary responsibility and the second row depicts the involvement of the indivudal in different area. However the amount of effort in each involvement can vary in comparison to the individuals primary responsibility (first row) which required high levels of engagement.

Support from parties outside of the team

During the course of the project we were supported in various ways by multiple sources. The type of support we received could be divided into 6 areas: General support, Laboratory support, Project support and advice, Project advisor support, Difficult technique support and Presentation coaching.

General support

The department of Chemistry, Physics and Biology (IFM) at Linköping university provided us with long-term access to a lab during the summer. The medical and technical faculty also assisted the team with financial support to partially pay for the registration fee.
The sponsors of the team, CENOVA and Unionen Öst, provided the team with financial support.

Project support and advice

The team received project advice from the human practice collaborations which include Dr. Moustafa Elmasry, Dr. Ahmed Elserafy and Dr. Ingrid Steinvall at the "national burn care center in Linköping (BRIVA)". Dr. Johan Junker at "Center for Disaster Medicine and Traumatology (KMC)" and research nurse Marie Lindblad at "Academic Hospital Burn Care Center Uppsala". The organisations gave us valuable advice.

Lab support

Even though the team conducted all the laboratory work themselves, the team received a lot of equipment from different sources, these can be seen below:

The team PI:s Dr. Lars-Göran Mårtensson and Prof. Per Hammarström supplied the team with important laboratory equipment and chemicals. They also contributed with their time, vast amount of knowledge and experience.

Senior lecturer Patrik Lundström provided the team equipment and chemicals.

Senior research engineer Cecilia Andérsen gave the team electrocompetent top10 cells as well as an protein-ladder for SDS-PAGE.

Senior lecturer Agneta Johansson gave the team access to a biosafety level 2 lab and provided us with the laboratory equipment.

The human practice collaborations also provided the team with useful equipment. BRIVA provided the cellulose bandage "Epiprotect, S2Medical" which was used in the majority of experiments conducted by the team.

The novel peptides designed by the modelling team was chemically synthesized by CASLO.

LabTeamet provided the team with a lot of lab equipment including Falcon and Eppendorf tubes.

Wiki support

At the beginning of the project, the wiki group received help in learning how to code the wiki from former LiU iGEM member Martin Viksten.

Project advisor support

During the course of the project the team received guidance from its PIs regarding such things as execution of experiments, revision of the safety form, troubleshooting and interpretation of results.

Human practice support

One of the teams PIs, Lars-Göran Mårtensson was in contact with Patrik Lundström who gave the team the opportunity to be responsible for the university's summer week, which was a one-week course for middle school children interested in science, see Human practice: Public engagement.

Presentation coaching

A project presentation was held in front of the involved people and we received feedback regarding several aspects of the presentation.
