Team:Moscow/Collaborations

Collaborations

Collaborations with mutual benefit:

  1. Since this year we weren't the only iGEM team from Russia, we decided to use this opportunity to create a collaboration with iGEM Moscow-Russia [not to be mistaken with our team, iGEM Moscow]. Our team members met several times with each other to share our project ideas and discuss future plans. As a result, both of our teams made a decision to make a cross-validation of our projects: a laboratory alternative to our method is real-time PCR, which is widely used by iGEM Moscow-Russia team. So they agreed to test our designs and to compare the effectiveness of our test on the real samples outside iGEM competition. Therefore, this collaboration may go beyond the limits of iGEM. Also, to increase our audience and spread of knowledge about our project among scientists and the student community we together made YouTube stream and published a common article on RSMU website.

  2. We have successfully made a presentation at the conference "Synthetic Biology Tools in Diagnostics", organized by iGEM Warwick. During this event, we, along with four other teams (iGEM Leiden, iGEM Patras, iGEM Copenhagen, and iGEM Warwick), told each other about our projects. This collaboration helped us to share our iGEM stories, check our wikis and medal requirements, and get some fresh ideas for the presentations. After this conference, we felt significantly more prepared to fill out the Judging Form and perform at the Giant Jamboree.

We have successfully made a presentation at the conference "Synthetic Biology Tools in Diagnostics".
  3. Vigorously following the activity of other iGEM teams, we took part in various global and national events. In particular, we attended the Taiwan Global Survey on Dengue, provided by iGEM IISER Berhampur and CCU iGEM. One of the teams was developing an accessible device assigned to detect Dengue fever and exploring the mechanisms of virus-host interactions. As a part of the event, we filled out a survey about Dengue disease, our knowledge of the topic, and the benefits that this team's project can bring. We were curious about learning more facts about this disease and other iGEM participants involved in virus detection as we do. Thus, we also wrote our feedback on their project and thoroughly studied their virus detection method. The experience subsequently helped our team to look at their system from a different point of view.

  4. We helped iGEM TU Delft by adding Russian subtitles to their synthetic biology video. It has already received over 1000 views! This work helped our team to popularize ourselves and synthetic biology in general, and the team TU Delft was able to expand their audience through our translation.

We organized the following activities for iGEM teams:

To demonstrate and reinforce unity in the iGEM community, we launched flash mobs and organized workshops. Thanks to all these small collaborations, we met with other teams around the world and told each other about our project ideas.

  1. We made two social networking workshops for the iGEM community (and not only) "A secret key to Mass Media" as a part of iGEM 2020 Opening Weekend Festival and one lecture “A guide to mass media success” during German iGEM online MeetUp, conducted by iGEM Marburg and Gießen MeetUp Team 2020. We explained our effective social networking strategies and recommended apps and programs to improve the content. After the lecture, we held a master class on adapting information to the formats of the most popular social networks. During the classes, we got acquainted with many other team members and shared our experiences.

After the events, the workshop participants wrote to us with requests to suggest apps for mass media and asked for advice with the content. This experience gave us an opportunity to create a guide to mass media!

On the Open Weekend Festival, we also start a #iGEMap_Flashmob to demonstrate that we all are united in time and space and 15 teams participated in it (iGEM_Iiser-Tirupati, iGEM Technion, iGEM TAU, iGEM Marburg 2021, Western iGEM, iGEM Rotterdam, iGEM Hamburg, iGEM Paris Saclay, iGEM RUM, iGEM UPCH, Aalto-Helsinki iGEM, iGEM Team Hannover, iGEM Nantes, iGEM Heidelberg 2020, Estonia TUIT).

During the events, we conducted a survey among participants about social networks that they use to promote their teams. This helped us focus on the most popular social networks when looking for collaborations.

Besides, other participants and we prepared the Team Introduction Videos for the German Online MeetUp, which helped every team introduce themselves.

  2. These are great works of #iGEMap_Flashmob contributors.
  3. To get to know the iGEM community better and tell about ourselves, we launched small funny challenges for other teams: "What lab equipment are you?" "Emoji challenge," "Online meetup bingo," "iGEM languages." Also, we organized Tea_art_igem on drawing pictures of synthetic biology with tea. In this creative way, we managed to draw attention to our project. More than 15 teams took part in these small competitive activities. As a result, other people shared their country's cultures and told us about themselves and their projects. In the future, it helped us to create content to promote the iGEM community.

  4. These are examples of the small flash mobs we started.

Our part in activities organized by other teams:

  1. We participated in a quiz about India and its traditions, conducted by Prayaas, IISER Bhopal participants. While we had a chance to learn something new about another country's culture, the team could raise more money for needy citizens of Bhopal with our help.
  2. We went through an interesting quiz from the creative team and helped raise money for charity.
  3. During iGEM Game night we enjoyed various exciting activities and got to know members of other teams with many of whom we continued our further communication. In particular, we subsequently corresponded with the Copenhagen team, got acquainted with their project, and shared our biosensor's idea. We also continued to keep in touch with other members of iGEM Game night via Discord.

  4. Carried out by the iGEM Darmstadt and iGEM Aachen 2020 teams, iJET was one of the events we took part in. This was an exciting project to create a video about iGEM teams and the countries they represent. We made our own clip and, at the same time, enjoyed watching videos of other participants, getting to know them, and the countries they're a part of.

  5. We contributed to creating the music bank of The Sound of iGEM teams, established by the iGEM IISER Berhampur. They have collected music from all over the world that we can all enjoy together.

  6. The favorite songs of iGEM members from all over the world are collected in one playlist.

  7. At the same time, we participated in similar events, held by other iGEM teams all over the world: iGEM IISER Bhopal, iGEM Rotterdam, iGEM Patras 2020, iGEM UPCH (Crioprot) @igem_upch_peru, iGEM Hamburg, iGEM Estonia TUIT 2020, iGEM nantes, iGEM IISER Tirupati, iGEM Team USP-Brasil, Nottingham iGEM, iGEM Groningen, iGEM Thessaly, NUS iGEM Team, igem copenhagen (CIDosis). We also took part in flash mobs “Three things I love about being an iGEMer”, “National day of nature” and “Sugar rush”.

  8. For half a year, our team enjoyed small flash mobs that other friendly teams launched on Instagram.
