Proposed Implementation
The main implementation of our project would be in the Island of Vieques. Specifically, but not limited to the Lagones Lagoon. This Lagoon became one of the most contaminated areas of Vieques after the Marines left the Island. It is currently part of EPA’s Superfund National Priorities List.
Our plan is to first take samples from the area to study the contamination levels and use this information to optimize our project. Since this area is not open to the public,we have contacted the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Agency to gain access to the area.
The genetically engineered bacteria will be contained inside of the hardware we are designing. (poner hyperlink de competencias/hardware)This device can then be transported to the Anones Lagoon and other affected areas. Here, the water and soils will enter the hardware and the bioremediation will occur.
