Team:SYSU-Software/Team
Overview
We are 23 undergraduates enthusiastic about synthetic biology and software from Sun Yat-Sen University, located in Guangzhou, China. From sophomore to senior, the members come from school of Life Science, Date and Computer Science, Mathematics, Communication and Design, Electronics and Information Technology.
Our Primary PI Prof. Yang Jianhua gave his professional advice on how to design a software and how to carry out a project. Other advisors and professors from Sun Yat-Sen University also offered precious suggestions. Previous iGEM Team members guided us through the project as advisors.
Biology Group
Biology Group consists of 11 undergraduates in the School of Life Sciences in Sun Yat-sen University, located in Guangzhou , China. We are enthusiastic about synthetic biology and combining it with Computer Sciences and Mathematics.
Junli Du 杜俊利（Student Leader）
I mainly worked on the idea discovering of early stage, development of experiment optimization part and transcriptional control system designer. I also helped to connect all Bio group, Maths group and programming group with each other. Every subject counts, I believe the voice of different people leads us to the answer, and this is why we are different. It really makes me learn a lot by working with guys from different fields.
Yue Zeng 曾玥（Student Leader）
I am Yue Zeng, one of the student leaders in Biology Group. Taking part in iGEM is one of the best things in my life because it leads me to the iGEM.
Youqi Wang 王佑琪
Hi, I am Youqi Wang. I have jioned in SYSU-Software for two years and maked many friends with people from different fields. Not only I develop my leadship but also realize what I want to do - make synthetic biology design easy and funny. I wish our project will play an important role in world!
Xiaoyan Zhang 张笑妍
I am Xiaoyan Zhang. In our team, I often contributed ideas and suggestions, GeneNet is one of them. I mainly responsible for the implementation and optimization of GeneNet. I work together with others to complete this part and wrote wiki. iGem competition brings me a lot, not only learn knowledge but also making a bunch of friends. Such a wonderful experience!
Musen Lin 林沐森
I am Musen Lin. As a member of biology group of software team, I am responsible for wet lab and researching for databases. During this competition, I learned a lot both in biology and software. Various of communications with professors, lawyers, companies, and other teams in igem really taught me what the situation of synthetic biology is like. And I believe our team's months of paying efforts will get a wonderful endings.
Xinyao Zhou 周欣瑶
Hi, I am Xinyao Zhou, majoring in Biotechnology. I have done some searching and studying work based on what the team need, and I have participated in the discussion about how to design our software. I have done some basic works for programmers. I have also participated in writing some exhibit material for human practice and team wiki.
Yifei Zang 臧怡飞
I'm mainly responsible for gene circuit expression simulation and coordiating work with modelling group and program group.It was an unforgettable experience for me to work with people from different fields. When the knowledge of different fields is combined, there is an opportunity to create extraordinary results.
Qing Lu 卢擎
I'm Lu Qing, a member in the biology group. I take part in the SYSU software in order to get more knowledge and communicate with people from different fields. I think it's a wonderful experience in the iGEM to learn how to collaborate.
Ruoheng Mo 莫若衡
Hi, I am Ruoheng Mo from bio group. I did some basic work on searching and learnign parts, and I am responsible for Science Communication work and wiki writing. Glad to join iGEM community!
Weining Li 李蔚苧
I am Weining Li in biology group. I mainly did the Human Practice work and some fundamental job such as research reading and wiki writing. I believe our software will make a small but meaningful contribution to the development of synthetic biology.
Shulin Jin 金树林
I am Shulin Jin in Bio group! I have done some basic work on searching and learning, and I am also responsible for part of HP work and wiki writing. “Stay hungry, stay foolish!”
Modeling Group
Modeling Group consists of 4 undergraduates form the School of Mathematics in Sun Yat-sen University. We learning key algorithms required to implement the project and converting them to functional codes which are later shared with team coding.
Bei Zhang 张贝
I am Bei Zhang, coming to SYSU-Software in order to know more excellent students and improve my ability in mathematical modeling and programming algorithm. In this competition, I was lucky to get acquainted with a lot of outstanding teammates from different colleges, and intuitively realized the application value of mathematics in synthetic biology. At the same time, I also encountered setbacks and realized that I had many shortcomings to improve.
Jiahang Cao 曹嘉航
Hi, i am Jiahang Cao. I participated in the Simulation of Gene pathways by ODE methods,and also help adjusted hyper-parameter in GeneNet Model.I am honored to be a member of the SYSU-SOFTWARE, where I have experienced the collision between the ideas of biology and mathematical calculation.Genes are the origin of life, and our team's research on gene pathways is of profound significance to the study of life.
Jiahao Cao 田嘉豪
I mainly worked with math modeling, including GeneNet algorithm and Bayesian optimization. Taking part in this year's iGEM competition, I learned that the building of a project is not an easy task at all and that the power of a tight group is so amazing.
Likun Zhang 张理昆
I am Likun Zhang. I mainly participate in the parts of partial differential equations and Bayesian optimization. I see this competition as a great chance for people from different areas to coorporate with each other and foster great ideas.
Programmers
Programmers consists of 4 undergraduates in the School of Data and Computer Science in Sun Yat-sen University. We are responsible for desgining algorithm for our project, as well as implementing the framework of the software, further encapsulation and optimizations.
Yuze Fu 傅禹泽
I am Yuze Fu, participating as a programmer. I took part in the implementation of user interface. With the work in iGEM, I learned a lot of biology and gained experience of collaborating with partners from different majors.
Yongye Su 宿永烨
As a programmer, what I did is applying deep learning techniques and machine learning algorithms in synthetic biology software, Yolo and Bayesian Optimization based on Gauss's processes, respectively. Due to the asymmetry of data to eukaryotes and prokaryotes, I designed transfer learning regression to complete the prediction function.
Yawen Guan 关雅雯
I'm Yawen Guan, a member in programming group. I take responsibility for the construction of database and search algorithm implementation. So Happy to meet friends here and learn from cooperation.
Enze He 贺恩泽
I'm Enze He, an undergraduate bachelor of Software Engineering in Sun Yat-sen University. I'm also a member of Microsoft Student Partner. I have some experience with Computer Vision project before, so I tried to implement the object recognition module using YOLO and OCR. In IGEM competition I gained a lot experience of collaborating development.
Designers
Designers consists of 4 undergraduates from the School of Communication and Design in Sun Yat-sen University. We are responsible for designing academic posters, promotion video, beautify and customize the wiki pages.
Jiangyue Yuan 袁江月
I am Jiangyue Yuan. I originally majored in Japanese, but I changed my major to The School of Communication and Design since I wanted to learn design very much. This is a brand-new journey for me and with the spirit of adventure, I tries to design a complete set of visual expression system. From logos to the wiki interface and illustrations, I thought comprehensively and expressed simply. By visualizing the key of our software, I designed a fantasy world composed of blue and green.
Yilin Zhong 钟艺琳
Hello, I am Yilin Zhong , from the school of Communication and Design, majoring in communication. I am responsible for the vedio clip and art design in our team. I hope our project drive further changes.
Yuhou Chen 陈雨后
I am Chen Yuhou ,from the School of Communication and Design, majoring in communication, mainly responsible for the art design work in our team，including typography of wikis and poster, processing pictures, production of presentation video. I hope our project can have a better future.
Haoxi Zhang 张昊熹
I am Haoxi Zhang, participating as a designer. I was in charge of the wiki. With the work in iGEM, I gained valuable experience of collaborating with partners from different majors.
Primary PI
Jianhua Yang 杨建华
Dr. Yang Jianhua is our team’s PI, who had led SYSU-Software won the iGEM best software track for four times and the gold medal for six times. He majors in biochemistry and bioinformatics and now he is studying the structure, function and mechanism of non-coding RNA gene, RNA modification and their interacting proteins.
Advisors
Tianqin Li 李天钦
Graduate student at Carnegie Mellon University, School of Computer Science. Interested in Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Computational Biology, Computational neuro science. Give advice on software design, presentation, Human Practices and Collaborations.
Tianlun Lei 雷天伦
I am Tianlun Lei, a postgraduate student in Sun Yat-sen University, School of Life science. I major in physiology, and enchanted in neuroscience. I hold the post of advisor in our iGEM team.
Instructors
Zhumei He 贺竹梅
Dr. He Zhumei is from School of Life Sciences of SYSU who taught us genetics and bioethics. He is also the Director of Chinese Genetic Society and Vice President of Guangdong Genetic Society, and has a deep understanding of biosafety and bioethics.
Jian Ren 任间
Dr. Ren Jian is a professor majored in bioinformatics from School of Life Sciences of SYSU. He mainly engaged in biomolecular modification (post-translational modification of proteins, RNA modification), gene editing, tumor genomics and bioinformatics and experimental research related to biological image recognition.
Jianzhong Liu 刘建忠
Dr. Liu Jianzhong is the director of Institute of Synthetic Biology of School of Life Sciences of SYSU and the Deputy Director of Biomedical Center. He is interested in using technologies that combine metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, and system biology together such as promoter engineering and chromosome engineering to regulate microbial cells to build efficient cell factories.
Zeng Kun曾坤
Dr. Zeng Kun comes from School of Data and Computer Science of SYSU. He majors in object recognition and segmentation as well as deep learning and image stylization. He also tries to apply deep learning to medical image segmentation.
