Project Leader

alternative

My name is Foteini, I'm 21 and I come from a small village in Crete, called Kouses. Currently, I am the leader of iGEM Thessaly’s team and I'm studying Veterinarian Medicine, in Karditsa. I applied to be a member of iGEM Thessaly because I'm intrigued by the concept of synthetic biology and all its prospects. In my spare time, I like to escape from reality any way I can. In life, there are many questions, but I'm sure of two things "I am Foteini, whatever that means" and "We are too young to be ok with ok".

Wet Lab

alternative

I'm Magda, I am 23 years old and I am from Thessaloniki. As it is said, “nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood”. So that's why I became a student of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, in Larisa, to understand life and the secrets of the world. I am a member of the iGEM team, the head of the wet lab and when I don't study or playing with pipettes, I like to dance, read books and create beautiful memories with my friends. As they say, I try to live my life by the quote of Ray T. Bennett "Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create".

I’m Asteria Tsapadikou, I’m 22 years old and I am from Thessaloniki. I’m a wannabe Biochemist-Biotechnologist as I am an undergraduate student in the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology. My biggest passion is to understand the mystery of life, so now I’m trying to understand the mystery of synthetic biology through my journey in iGEM. I’m a member of the wet lab and when I don’t have a pipette in my hand, I usually dance, read a book or go shopping with my friends. The unknown is scary, and as Rosalind Franklin said: "Science, for me, gives a partial explanation for life. In so far as it goes, it is based on fact, experience and experiment" Now it’s time to understand more, experience more and find the true explanation and purpose of our life.

My name is Venetios Michelioudakis, I am 21 years old and I come from Volos. I study at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology in Larisa. My ambition, upon joining this team, was to make something that will help the whole world. From a young age, my dream was to work as a member of something bigger than myself and figure out how our world works.

alternative

My name is Manolis. I am 24 years old. I’ve recently graduated from the faculty of pharmacy of the University of Patras and I’m about to start my postgraduate studies in biomedicine. I feel very grateful for being given the opportunity to join the iGEM Thessaly’s lab team and therefore expand my knowledge background, strengthen my skills, and broaden my academic horizons. I have always been fascinated by the “magic” surrounding biosciences, so my fundamental ambition is to pursue a research career in the drug development sector, focusing on novel biopharmaceuticals. Synthetic biology constitutes an emerging multilayered and pluridimensional field of expertise, promising to give rise to a multitude of internationally commercialized highly value-added products capable of inaugurating a new era towards a biobased economy. With the SynBio toolkit, scientists aspire to build an auspicious future of unprecedented universalized well-being for mankind… provided society is mature enough to capitalize upon this vein of gold.

Dry Lab

alternative

My name is Tasos Mesis, I am 23 years old and I’m from Thessaloniki. I am studying in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in Volos. I wanted to be a part of iGEM Thessaly’s team because I like learning new and interesting things about science and specifically about synthetic biology, so I can use my knowledge for something greater than me. I am part of the dry lab, which means that my duty revolves around the project and capsule system modeling.

alternative

I am Vasilis, a student at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in Volos, and also a member of the Dry Lab team. I always wanted to figure out why things happen and to find solutions to problems. That’s the reason why I decided to participate in the iGEM competition. My work in iGEM involves designing models that can help solve a synbio problem. My main academic interest is to understand the nature of Intelligence. When I am not busy debugging my code, I enjoy going on long drives with friends.

Human Practices

alternative

I'm Lemonia Apocha, I am 25 years old and I am from Kalambaka. My first passion since I remember myself, was discovering nature, so I already graduated last year from the Department of Agriculture Crop Production and Rural Environment, and nowadays, I am working towards my master in “Phytoiatrics and Environment”. Since I started talking about my passions, my second one is about education. I really love educating, above all myself, and then I try to pass my knowledge to my social circle. So, I decided to become a member of iGEM Thessaly’s team and try to educate all of society about our project and generally about Synthetic biology. The most important thing for me is to talk and interact with people who have a problem and try to find the right solution for them.

Graphic Design

alternative

My name is Ifigenia and I'm 22 years old. I was born and raised in the town of Volos and I am studying in the Department of Architecture. My first ambitions upon joining the team were to compete with my personal capabilities in graphic designing and to try to cooperate with other people that have different perspectives about life and interests. I like to escape from the fast paces of life and reality by reading books and listening to music for endless hours.

Web Design

alternative

My name is George, I live in Greece and I come from Serres. I’m 21 years old and I’m studying in the Department of Computer science and engineering. From a young age, I had a huge passion for science and I always tried to find a logical explanation about everything in life. At the age of 16, I realized my affinity for computer science, taking my first steps into the world of programming. In my spare time, I interest myself in reading books, playing guitar, and working out. I decided to join the team of iGEM Thessaly because I wanted to experience teamwork with people from a different scientific field than mine, for a common goal; the love for science and exploration.

Advisors

alternative

My name is Marios Lange, I am 22 years old and I grew up in Greece, but I am also half German. I graduated from the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, in Larisa with an excellent score and at the moment I attend the second year of my Master degree titled “Advanced experimental & computational Biosciences”. I joined this team to learn how to work and co-operate with other people of different scientific backgrounds and learn more about other aspects of how to approach a project. My role as an advisor is to pass some of my knowledge and train the next generation of scientists. The things that I enjoy most in my free time are watching movies, hitting the gym, and spending time with my friends.

alternative

My name is Nikolaos Ntelkis and I am 22 years old. I am from North Evia, Greece. Studying at the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology in Larissa, Thessaly, Greece. I am one of the team’s advisors since I participated in iGEM 2019. From this position, I hope to help this year’s students to get the most and best out of the iGEM experience and cooperate more effectively between subteams. My academic interests include Metabolic Engineering and applications of standardization in Plant Biology. Also, you could say I am in love with CRISPR and its unique potential. Besides that, I enjoy reading and have a diverse set of hobbies, such as aquaria, gardening, playing music, video games, running, and cycling.
