Science Communication and Outreach

We posted an infographic about how our project (printing CaCO3 precipitated by bacteria into custom shapes) could reduce the carbon footprint of CaCO3 production and help rehabilitate coral reefs.

Team Collaborations

We posted an announcement for UCL's UK-wide virtual meetup, with graphic design by Nina.

Collaboration with Experts/Industry

Yesterday Anna got in touch with Professor Mike Allen at Plymouth Marine Laboratory, since our supervisor John mentioned he was working with coccolithospores, microalgae which produce calcium carbonate shells. Today he responded to us via email and informed us that as well as working with microalgae, he also had three 3D printers and had experimented with printing material for bone grafts using various filaments – ranging from metal to seaweed. This sounded highly relevant to our project so we arranged a Zoom meeting with him next Wednesday on the 12th of August.
