Lab Work
We attempted the B. sub transformations again, repeating the same steps. We doubled the amount of culture, media & DNA as we wanted to test the growth of the transformed bacteria on two agar plates with different concentrations of antibiotics. Anna & Eloise did the morning shift then Adam and Bethan took over in the afternoon.
Some miscommunication when changing shifts meant that the B. sub was incubated in medium A for 90 minutes less than it should have been. This probably reduced the cell mass, although competency of the cells grown should have remained the same.
Team Collaborations
Matthew and Velizar met with UNSW. Both teams described their projects in more detail and UNSW explained how they were planning to run the Coral Symposium. They sent us an email afterwards listing other teams working on coral/marine life who they were collaborating with and who they planned to invite to the symposium.
