Project Safety
The aim of BNU-China team is trying to design an efficient lineage tracing technology applying for eukaryotic cells. During the course of the season, our team utilized Escherichia coli strains DH5α and Saccharomyces cerevisiae BY4741. These strains are both non-pathogenic and are classified as Biosafety Level 1 (BSL-1). Additionally, our team used another fungal species, Cryptococcus neoformans 4500FOA, which is an opportunistic pathogen and classified as BSL-2. Our lab is also a certified BSL-2 lab, allowing us to work with this strain.
Laboratory Safety
The iGEM BNU-China team is in full compliance with the safety and security policies of the iGEM competition. Our lab contains equipment for both Biosafety Level 1 and 2. All team members had to receive training and pass different safety tests before working in the lab. We also received instrument training from our advisors. At all times, a supervisor or instructor was present when work was conducted in the laboratory.
