HagBric

HAGfish-made faBRIC

Who are HagBric?

We are a team from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology,
here to develop a novel biodegradable fiber material originates from
hagfish slime for you.

2020 has been a tough year for everyone. With everything being delivered
in virtual mode, we can hardly meet anyone physically.
This year we are having a team formed by around twenty students, coming
from the School of Science, Engineering, and Business & Management.

Problems

Check now, what are your clothes made up of? Is your t-shirt made of polyester? Do you wear a water-proof nylon windbreaker? All these materials are synthetic fibers that could cause microfiber pollution.

Moreover, the conventional chemical dyes for these materials are seriously deteriorating the water quality of our hydrosphere. Check here for more detailed explanations for the environmental issues we try to ease.

Solutions

With regard to the microfiber problem, we pursue hagfish slime thread as a potential eco-friendly substitute. Additionally, we attempt to apply chromoproteins as colorants in order to ease chemical dye pollutions to the water body. Visit here for our project designs.
