Where and what do you study?

I am a sophomore at Pirogov Medical University studying Biomedicine

What do you enjoy most in your studies?

Since I’m in the beginning of getting my higher education, I haven’t had any special biological disciplines yet. However, my curiosity has no boundaries so I attend lectures on Biochemistry and Genetics which I find fascinating.

What are your scientific interests?

I’m eager to study different aspects of Molecular Biology, such as genetics (gene engineering in particular) and Omics Sciences: genomics and proteomics.

What are you looking for in an iGEM2020 competition?

Taking part in iGEM is a brand new thing for me. I think the main feature of every competition is the importance of being flexible. For flexibility development it’s crucial to have soft and transferable skills which I wish to master thanks to iGEM. I also appreciate the opportunity to be a part of a truly diverse iGEM community and to meet such amazing people.

Where and what do you study?

I’m a 4th year student of the Pediatrics Faculty at Pirogov Medical University

What do you enjoy most in your studies?

Study of human, normal physiological and pathophysiological processes at the molecular level in particular.

What are your scientific interests?

Reproductology, screening of orphan diseases at the stage of pregnancy planning, screening of pathological predispositions to diseases and their correction, the influence of the immune system on infertility. Also, I’m interested in oncology, genetic screening of tumors at an early stage and the study of mutations in specific tumors.

What are you looking for in an iGEM2020 competition?

New experience since it’s the first time I take part in an international competition. Also, I’m glad I can increase the awareness about orphan diseases in global society.

Some of the photos from our lab at Pirogov Medical University

Veronika

Veronika extracts DNA from the samples. DNA extraction is performed by both robots and team members. This is one of the most important steps!

Team

A part of our team! Left to right: Ivan, Aleksandr, Veronika, Emma, Alexandr. Cool guys, aren’t they? :)

Daria

Daria is vortexing reagents. Always vortex some reagents before using!

Alexandr

Working at the lab is such an entertainment! Right, Alexandr? :)

Emma

Emma is starting the PCR. This time for the inner quality control to make sure we can keep on working with these samples.
