Team NJMU-China would like to acknowledge the courteous contributions and support from numerous people – Special thanks to all mentioned below!

General and Lab Support

We would like to thank Nanjing Medical University School of Basic Medical Sciences for generously providing funding and general support to the iGEM team this year!

Special thanks to our mentors, Prof. Chuan Su, Prof. Xingyin Liu, Prof. Qianghu Wang, Dr. Bin Yao, Key Laboratory of Pathogen Biology of Jiangsu Province, Department of Bioinformatics, Department of Developmental Genetics , for all the laboratory training, resources, and guidance throughout the process, as well as Ming Zhang, Mengyin Xing for experiment and part design advice.

Project Idea Guidance

Again, we thank our mentor, Prof. Xingyin Liu, for encouraging our curiosity and science-mindedness. She patiently optimized our experiments and often discussed the problems with us. Prof. Qianghu Wang and Dr. Yichao Wang suggest and guided us to conduct a parallel screening strategy. And thanks to Dr. Weiwei Duan and Dr. Xue Lin, for the guidance of metabolomics modeling and protein structure modeling. At the beginning of our project, the School of Basic Medical Sciences hosted a salon for us, inviting professors of different fields and bringing us lots of inspiration. Thank you Prof. Li Yuan, Prof. Huamin Tang, Prof. Wentao Liu, Prof. Minjun Ji !

Human Practices Support

We would like to thank Prof. Xingyin Liu . As an autism research scholar, she helped us contact the special-education expert at Haizhixing Autism Rehab Centre and arranged for the volunteer and interview experience, which was a highlight of our HP. Also, GeneScript for the hosting of iGEM seminar at Nanjing. We had a great time and thanks for your efforts! Thanks to Jiangnan University for the hosting of ECiC and the tips given to us!

Technical Support

Lastly, we would like to thank Minjie Yu and Yaodong Gu for the direction and video-shooting of the presentation video. And Yisheng Ji for video editing work. We are lucky to have you guys make the video come alive.

Individual Attribution

Sihan Ju, leader of our team. He was responsible for designing and supervising our project, including experiments, modeling, and human practices. He participated in most experiments, designed the serotonin-biosensor, and improved the protocol for functional verification. Meanwhile, he played a significant role in the conception of bioinformatic modeling, as well as integrated social medical research and health education programs. He was also in charge of writing most of our project's content on Wiki. And it's worth mentioning that he initiated this project and made our team the first in our school to participate in iGEM.

Yiling Zhang, vice-leader of our team. She kept in touch with PIs and HQ, making sure we get the latest advice and competition updates. She was responsible for the construction of the metabolomics analysis model to determine the potential biomarkers in urine. Besides, she manages our WeChat public account and writes articles on it so that we can better communicate with the public. iGEM calendar is in her! Make sure we don’t miss anything important. She also purchased materials and arranged HP activities.

Bujie Xu, lab work administrator. She participated in the discussion of preliminary experimental design and product application. She also completed most of the experiments to verify and optimize the experimental design! Moreover, she took part in some activities about inter-school communication and human practice.

Sijing Shi, a member of the wet-lab team, she was responsible for assisting with daily experiments. Also, she was a member of Human Practices and participated in human practice activities.

NingYuan Tang, a member of the wet-lab team. He was an experiment executor, who is responsible for the process of whole experiments, basically including bacterial culture, experiment condition excavated.

Zhuang Xiao, a member of the wet-lab team. He participated in the design of the project ideas, actively participated in the discussion, and determined the final direction of the project. He was mainly responsible for the experiment, explored the feasibility of the experiment through different conditions, and made great contributions to the team. Besides. He also participated in social experimental research, through interviews, design content, so that we can understand autistic children more clearly

Yan Wang, the team's "all-round assistant". She participated in the topic selection, experimental design, and the following discussion. She was involved with almost all iGEM communication meetings and played a role in human practice. She went to the autism center to spend time with autistic children, to play with them, and to learn about their situation. At the same time, she was responsible for writing part of the project on Wiki.

Linfeng Zhao, HP administrator and a member of the Wet Lab. He followed the team to complete the preliminary experimental design discussion and participated in the experiment. Moreover, he was responsible for the communication with other teams and hold HP activities like salons, iGEM recruitment.

Baihao Liao, a member of the HP Team. He wrote the informed consent form and the shooting consent form for our HP program. He also wrote a brochure about the "Brain and intestine axis" to let autistic children's parents understand the scientific progress behind the project.

Xinyi Yang, a member of the HP Team who was responsible for popularizing relevant knowledge to parents of autistic children. Drafting a brochure helps parents take better care of their children. Meanwhile, as a member of the wet-lab team, participate in the preliminary experimental design.

Junhong Chen, a member of the HP Team, who was responsible for designing the questionnaire and popularizing relevant knowledge to parents of autistic children. The questionnaire helps parents learn more about autism. Meanwhile, at the beginning of our project, he put forward ideas and designed experiments.

Ruilang Lin, a member of the dry lab team. He was responsible for mathematical modeling for the team! In collaboration with Simeng Yin, he contributed to models that describe the growth of bacteria in the experiment and one that explains the time-varying process of concentration of proteins. With their efforts, the complicated biological process was precisely depicted and the plausibility of the project was demonstrated, as well as the application of the project. He also took part in community activities, which helps to propagate some advice on autism diets!

Biling Pei, a member of the dry lab team. She was responsible for the modeling and docking of molecular, make the mechanisms of molecular action visualized. And she contributed searching information of biosensor and quorum sensing molecules. Besides, she participated in the construction of the plasmid system and provided experimental suggestions. What's more, she actively participated in the exchange of projects with other iGEM teams.

Simeng Yin, the dry lab team administrator. She was in charge of the major modeling alongside exploring the theoretical foundation for the project. She completed mathematical modeling of the urine diffusion model on our test strip. The promotion video and presentation video was successfully shot with her help of scriptwriting. She was an active participator!

Yihan Xu , the web designer who established our wiki! Besides that, as a co-op supervisor, he was also responsible for establishing close communication with other team members. He is always full of energy and believes he can use programming skills to make the world better. With the cooperation of Ruoming Wang, mainly establishing the page footer and notebook, our wiki was successfully created!

Yisheng Ji and Cao Mengmeng, our cultural and creative elements designers! They designed all our posters, wiki elements, logo, theme. All the amazing ideas come from them! They played a role in graphic design. The goods for team promoting such as T-shirts, decals, brochures were mainly designed by them. They also cooperated with the web-lab team to create a simple but beautiful wiki page and drew the main characters in the promotion video. Yisheng Ji is also good at language problems when we are figuring out all the competition requirements.
