Safe project design

Our design use Ecoli BL21 (DE3) which is not harmful to the human and environment, and also the most common used chassis in the iGEM white list. The gene segment we used are all safety which won’t be do harm to the environment.

In our experiment, we design a bacterial synchronized lysis circuit (SLC), which can periodically kill bacteria and maintain the density of bacteria in the intestinal tract of locusts in a low and controllable range. Moreover, for biosafety, we designed a temperature responsive bacterial synchronized lysis switch, at high temperature, the bacteria begin to decompose. In this way, we can avoid the escape of bacteria effectively.


Safe lab work

According to the iGEM safety policy requires, we didn't do any dangerous experiments in daily work or faced any unusual safety issues. We followed the flowing icons:
1. We should wear Knee-length clothing and gloves in the lab, skirt and pants (clothes which are not under knees) are not allowed in the lab area.
2. We have no right to copy the key to the laboratory without permission.
3. The entire lab was sterilized using UV-light every week.
4. The last person to leave the lab always made sure that water, electricity, gas, and the air conditioner were shut down, and doors and windows have been locked before leaving.
5. Putting laboratory waste in the correct bin.
6. All items in the laboratory should be put back in place after use.
7. Students with long hair must tie up their hair before entering the lab.
8. Students should wear masks or goggles when contact with dangerous goods.
9. Food and beverages are strictly prohibited in lab area.
10. Students must be trained before using lab equipment.
11. Do not touch items such as phones and computers with gloves on in the lab.
12. Experiments that hazardous substances are used like gel-electrophoresis must be done inside special marked contamination areas.
13. Do not bring laboratory waste out.
