Overview
During this year, we in total developed three different software to help us provide better educational serves for students in Qinghai province and spread the iGEM across the population. We provided an Experiment time management software to help those who are in charge of wet-lab experiments and under the suffer of unscientifically time table. The second software is the 2048 game in iGEM theme, which was used in our H.P works and had shown others what iGEM is about. The third one, which you may have already seen on our public engagement page, is a 3D-game based on the unreal 4 engine and plays a role as a course of some wet-lab experiments that iGEM teams usually use. Students from Qinghai province enjoyed our 3D-game and learned a lot from it.
Time management software
The picture displayed an experimental assistant part of our project. It can be used to design a time plan for multiple procedure experiment. So we can avoid operating at midnight, which is quite an interruption. In fact, it is a Wechat applet, so it's convenient to use as long as Wechat has been downloaded.
IGEM 2048
Our goal was to inform the public about the basic principles of synthetic biology and its application in botanical research. In July, our team went to Xining, Qinghai, to introduce the basic knowledge of synthetic biology in Huangchuang Middle School. We talked about the knowledge of botany and taught them to observe different kinds of cells through microscopes, and they felt the joy of biology.
Virtual simulation experiment
A virtual simulation experiment has also been developed. In this virtual experiment, the protagonist is a student that is going to transfer a specific gene to E.coli, which was a classic synthetic biology experiment. Players should find the equipment they need and make the right choices. If the players are not familiar with the experiment, there is no need for them to be worried because they can find useful clues during the experiment. The virtual experiment will give score in the end according to players' performance.
