Gold Medal & Best New Application Award

The year 2020 is a historic one but despite all of the challenges and many sleepless nights, we are very proud to mark a happy milestone by bringing gold to iGEM Uppsala for the 10th year in a row! Moreover, our project, NANOFLEX, a modular biosensor employing exchangeable nanobodies for detection of analyte of choice was recognized as the Best New Application Project of this year.

Comments from the iGEM Giant Jamboree Judges:

"I like the idea of this project which can provide an innovative tool for us to detect the molecules in our daily life. The prototype is really impressive!"

"The team presented a very impressive design using nanobodies to sense extracellular small molecules with E.coli chassis. The team wisely chose caffeine as the target and demonstrated their work would possibly work as they expected under the purposed implementation scenario. It's also impressive to see such a well-designed poster."

"The project was well planned and they presented a good proof of concept. I think the biosensor area is getting more and more interesting especially when we can get access to synthetic biology. Good job iGEMers."

"The project from iGEM Team UofUppsala aims to create a cellular biosensor adaptable to detect your analytes of choice. They have shown several efforts on designing the basis of a cellular device adaptable to detect any analyte. In their first-generation system, they also showed a proof-of-concept by detecting caffeine. Moreover, they had worked towards a platform for detecting not only small analytes as well as proteins. They had an enormous effort on developing a huge Type IIS part collection for future iGEMers and scientific society. Their HP activities towards tuberculosis infection suggest and reinforce the use of its device. Overall, the whole project, including Education and HP activities is very solid. I hope to hear from you in a near future!!"
