August 13, Beijing iGEMer Meetup

With the heavy rain in Beijing, on August 13th,we had an online meeting with Beijing iGEM teams. And we are able to get to know each other in this year's Beijing igemer exchange meeting and gain something from this exchange meeting. We have BNU-China, BIT,BUCT,CAU_China,Peking,Tsinghua,Tsinghua-A,UCAS-China. And we also invited Mr. Zhang Nan, Ambassador of iGEM in 2020, to answer our question. Then we had a thorough discussion in consider of our project. And at last, we had a in-depth communication with BNU-China and we shared our idea of how to make the registry of parts in wiki to them.

August 15, Friend Team Meetup

We participated in the friend team meet up with ten teams including the HZAU team, SZPT-CHINA, BIT-China, CPU CHINA Fudan, NWU-CHINA-A, NWU-CHINA-B and SZPT-China. There were two games in the morning and two in the afternoon. The main purpose of this meeting was to improve the communication among iGEM teams about different projects. In this meeting,we have learned about different projects and how did they achieved what they have. Their consideration and research on a project were even more comprehensive than I expected. We also received a lot of fine suggestions so we can improve our project to a higher level.

BNU-CHINA

We especially communicated with BNU-CHINA for wiki making and offered some of our experience to them. We had conversations in consist of modeling and part registration. For example, we exchanged our ideas about whether we should upload every part we ever searched or should we select it. We as well shared the user experience of benchling and other necessary applications required by iGEM and helped each other to discover those apps thoroughly.

August 28-31, CCiC-Conference of China iGEMer Community

During the procedure of our project, we feel the need to check our improvement. As it happens, the Conference of China iGEMer community had draw near. During the conference, we learned how to make posters and our work paid out. We get a award for best poster. Then as well we exchanged our ideas with the iGEMers all over the world, especially with the judges that was invited to the meeting. One of the judge said about the Toxin protein, and she suggested that we can use the ppgpp which was originated from E.coli and has a very small size so that it was easy to travel . But we find it hard to use for our project for it is to easy to digest and caused some serious trouble to our culture environment. Yet it was a great way to think outside the box anyway.

QS Team Group

Quorum Sensing is widely used in the control and regulation of cell population. Each team performs different functions according to their design of quorum sensing. The experience can help us design our projects better, it’s worth sharing. BIT-China, CPU_CHINA, HZAU, szpt, UESTC, Fudan, UESTC-China, ShanghaiTech-China established an online quorum sensing communication group.

After the presentation at the Meet Up, CPU_CHINA and us found that both of our teams were involved in quorum sensing design, so we exchanged the methods of and precautions for co-cultivation of bacteria (E. coli and Enterococcus faecalis); the methods of culture and rejuvenation of Enterococcus faecalis; the temperature, time of the culture and the specific configuration of the medium.
