Overview

iGEM is far more than its technical side. "After all, fun is all that matters," said our advisor - the team leader of GreatBay_China 2018 - Alexis at the beginning of the year. Apart from all our hard work in the laboratory and meeting rooms, we did something else to celebrate our amazing year of iGEM, being creative, having fun, and at the same time, promoting iGEM and iGEMers' life in the lab further to the general public by the following.

iGEM-Themed Board Games

We designed an iGEM-themed board game to propagate the cycle of iGEM and provide some entertainment for ourselves in our spare time. In this game, we combined lots of factors and elements about iGEM and daily lab life, such as "Lab is our of tryptone! No LB for a week! Pause for 1 round" "Collaboration took place! Points +1". This board game is both an enjoyable and effective way that allows potential future iGEMers to learn all aspects of this competition, including Human Practices, Modelling, Wiki. We plan to introduce our board game in the future, to the participants of our school iGEM ECA, to the next generation of iGEMers, to iGEM alumni, and to anyone who wants to know more.

iGEM Song Parodies

Gaining idea from the Wageningen_UR 2019 team's iGEM Song Contest, we created a series of iGEM-themed song parodies, adapting the lyrics of popular songs from movies such as Young and Beautiful, Into the Unknown, Let It Go, etc, to iGEM-themed versions and singing, acting them ourselves. We released these parodies on our WeChat official account and our Bilibili video account along with our project introduction, therefore letting a great number of people to get to know our project and life as an iGEMer. These song parodies are digital, which means it will be open to the public with permanent, convenient access, maximizing the range of our public engagement.

Art, Design, and Music

As you may have already noticed, our Wiki has an excellent artistic view with mushroom-related components throughout. Delicate drawings from our team members were used on our Wiki pages, as well as other aspect, such as little badges as souvenir for our Human Practice activities, and our Board Game. You may have also noticed the music in our Promotion Video - gaining inspiration from the song Show Yourself in Frozen, we re-wrote the lyrics to explain our project, and re-wrote the melody as well as instrumental accompaniment. The melody and chord progressions fully supports and illustrates the plot of our video, and reflects how the project of our team would lead the field of toxin detection to a brighter future.
