Throughout the summer, two projects concerning Science communication have been carried out. Both of the projects have been published to our youtube channel, but they have two separate target groups. One of them is a continuation of an earlier Linköping iGEM named Attempting Science, our contribution is a small series of informatory videos explaining the basics of synthetic biology. The other project is directed towards the users of ClusteRsy and people interested in learning more about applied bioinformatics.
When we were discussing our backgrounds and previous experiences within the group, we could easily conclude that synthetic biology is a difficult concept to grasp. At that point, the idea of short explanatory videos that broke down the subject to a level comprehensible to the Swedish high-school student arose. We decided to continue the digital series that was started 2 years prior named Attempting Science. In this way, we hoped that their job could still be appreciated by the new people visiting our Youtube channel. By creating short, easy-to-understand videos we hope that the high-school students can obtain a better understanding of the field of synthetic biology. In this way, they might understand what a potential future in the field of synthetic biology and biotechnology might bring.
One of the biggest issues with ClusteRsy is that it is difficult to use. Throughout the process of creation, we have tried to simplify it as much as possible, but in the end, it was still considered too difficult. To be able to guide the user further, we decided to record an instructional video to accompany the user. This video guides the user through ClusteRsy’s pipeline, all the way from the first upload of data to how to interpret the results. Our vision is that the user can use this guide to get going with ClusteRsy.
