Hi there, I am Andreu! As my other fellows, I am studying biomedical engineering. I have grown surrounded by nature and all its power just amazes me. Being now able to mimic and control it in the lab it just feels unbelievable! When having a break, I love hiking through new places, playing the piano and staying with my pets. Hello there! I’m Jaume Puig! I’m in my 4th year of BSc in Biomedical Engineering. Since I was a kid, I surrounded myself with nature and books, and that inspired me to become a scientist. Now I have found the perfect way to merge the scientific world with my scout spirit: synthetic biology. My dream is that someday I can apply this knowledge to space exploration!

I am a tenure track professor at Pompeu Fabra University. My laboratory is focused in leveraging new gene editing technologies for therapeutic purposes. Our two main lines of research are mammalian genome engineering and microbiome engineering.

Avencia Sanchez-Mejías
Senior Scientist in Translational Synthetic Biology Lab
I did my PhD in human genetics and I have worked in understanding the molecular hallmarks of cancer regulation during two postdoctoral fellowships in USA and Singapore. Currently, I am a senior scientist at Dr. Güell’s lab. I am working in the development of new gene editing and gene delivery strategies for therapeutical purposes, contributing to the implementation of advanced synthetic biology tools for treating human diseases.

PhD candidate in the Synthetic Biology for Biomedical Applications Lab
Human Biologist by training, I am completing my PhD under the supervision of Dr. Macía at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF, Barcelona, Spain). One of the main topics of my thesis focuses on the development of a new approach based on the creation of hybrid biosensors (combining living organisms with electronic devices) for continuous monitoring of environmental pollutants and pathogens.
