Generally Improving living standards has lead to extreme obesity, gluttony, and other diseases around the globe. Over 400 million people are now diagnosed with such a disease. Our research on drug selection platform can help increase the rate of pharmaceutical research of GR drugs, hence increasing medication available to treat diabetes caused by abnormal secretion of glucocorticoid and the high blood sugar symptoms caused by it, it could also help resolve abnormal blood sugar during starvation caused by wronged glycogenesis. In a society that perceives Diabetes as a solely insulin-linked endocrine disease, our research could both benefit the majority and the minority of the patient group.
When designing a topic, we not only determine the importance and universality of the topic by searching materials but also survey how many people suffer from diabetes and how many people don't know about diabetes by issuing questionnaires on various online channels. According to the survey results, 69.3% of people have diabetic patients nearby. In addition, 58.3% of people lack a basic understanding of diabetes and do not know the whether diabetes can be cured.
Although our survey lacks sufficient universality, there is only feedback from Shanghai, Jiangsu, Yunnan, and other regions in China, and almost no feedback from abroad. Moreover, China has the highest prevalence of diabetes, so the data theory is higher than the world average. But this still confirms our findings that diabetes is a metabolic disease of high importance and prevalence. Our project will bring some results to people's prevention and fight against diabetes.
After we determined that the topic was related to diabetes, in order to determine a more detailed direction, we interviewed many professors, clinicians, and patients with diabetes for many years, and got great help. Such as:
Mr. Fan, a clinician, recommended some reading materials related to the treatment of Diabetes, such as the Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes -- 2020 released by ADA on the official website of Diabetes Care. He also helped us summarize many of the clinical symptoms of diabetes, highlighting the five wagons of diabetes treatment: diet control, exercise therapy, medication, blood sugar monitoring, and diabetes education. Especially taught us a lot of knowledge about clinical medication, so that we have a deep understanding of the 7 types of clinical medication for diabetes. He told us that there are many type 2 diabetes drugs, so pure type 2 hypoglycemic drugs are not scarce. The ultimate goal of the present research and development is to develop a type II drug with high safety, low toxic and side effects, which can treat diabetic complications and is easy to use. This makes us more clear about the direction of our design project, hoping to develop a technology platform that can screen new drugs and accelerate the research and development of type II hypoglycemic drugs.
Professor Shen is a professor and doctoral tutor at the East China University of technology school of medicine, he taught us a lot about the professional knowledge of genes, drug, tell us non-steroidal GR antagonists side effect is small, universal, and luciferase can be used to build a platform, help us to determine the final topic, establishing a selective platform for target GR antagonist using Dual - fluorescent report technology. In addition, professor Shen also gave us a lot of professional experimental skills. We learned a lot about the use of experimental instruments in his institute. Professor Shen is a man with the spirit of scientific exploration and discovery. He has put forward many sharp questions and warned us to have a deeper understanding of the subject.
Public Engagement and Education
We did a lot of work to publicize the topic of our study. First of all, the official account is released. In China, WeChat is the software used by everyone. Therefore, it is very effective for our propaganda work to create an official account on WeChat to publish our research content and results. Cathy is the main editor of the official account. So far, we have published two articles to introduce the purpose, purpose, and steps of our experiment. Followed by a short video shoot, in order to let people know more about diabetes, we let Lee and Eric plays with diabetes, Evan plays the role of the doctor, took a small clip to give you the popular science knowledge about diabetes, Tony classmate video clips and Heaven schoolmate's painting ability provides great help to the short films, the video also successfully for many older people to understand the symptoms and the causes of diabetes. Not only that, but we also made a poster, post between the school, community, and attention to our study, in order to give people the popular science knowledge, please come to the Chinese Academy of Sciences doctoral we also can save a lot of light, for our further understanding of the knowledge about diabetes, solve the problems, we are pleased to people with diabetes to share our experience and enrich our knowledge. We also designed our uniform and handbag and put them in our online store in order to raise more money for our future study of the research.
