Partnership

We are in partnership with Hong Kong St. Stephen’s College (Team SSC) on modeling. Team SSC members shared with us their studies on molecular dynamic and how to apply in the binding kinetics of their peptide and Pd(II) complex. In return, we shared with them the use of different types of signal peptides.

A ZOOM meeting was conducted on 17 October 2020. There were two parts in our presentation. The first part was to introduce the secretion process of bacteria. We explained Two secretion systems: Sec and Tat to SSC students. The second part was about signal peptides. We gave a brief description and explanation on their functions, such as localization of proteins and determination of secretion efficiency. We also reminded them the possibility of protein misfolding when using certain signal peptide.

Team SSC illustrated the principles of molecular dynamics using a flow chart. They delivered the detailed techniques and skills in each individual step, like the force field and also shared useful software to generate protein models. Finally they used their project in iGEM 2020 as an example to clarify and explain the working procedures.
