The Heidelberg University Foundation was established at the end of 1984 to mark the forthcoming 600th anniversary of the Ruperto Carola. The Heidelberg University Foundation has set itself the task of optimizing the conditions for increasing and imparting university knowledge in Heidelberg through financial investment. It therefore supports the Ruprecht-Karls University, its members and institutions in fulfilling heir many and varied tasks in research and teaching. The foundation awards prizes to young scientists and promotes measures that optimize the conditions for lively scientific exchange between university members and guests from foreign universities in Heidelberg. It also initiates campaigns to raise funds to help the university with grants for larger projects.
The LBBW foundation Baden-Württemberg sponsors art and culture, supports young people in their professional and social development and fosters the preservation of flora and fauna. Especially start-up promotions and the support of local initiatives are concerns of the foundation. The history of the foundation started in 1984 being established in its current form in 2016. Since 1984 more than 11,000 projects have been supported with more than 26 million Euro.

Promega believes that shared knowledge across global networks helps scientists to fulfill their potential. By supporting the iGEM competition, Promega gives young researchers the opportunity to expand their knowledge, as well as to share their findings with society globally. This confidence in young students enables them to work on their ideas and make previously improbable scenarios possible. Their easy-to-use products are helping to get comfortable with simple reporter assays, as well as their high-quality enzymes.
The JUNG foundation supports projects in medicine and life sciences since its founding in 1967. One core element of the philosophy of the JUNG foundation is: “Finding answers before the question becomes urgent.” Not only a finished product is worthy to be supported, but also early ideas that might become a blessing for humanity in the future. Because of this philosophy, the JUNG foundation decided to generously sponsor our project this year.

They provide a vast set of products that support many fields of life science research, including gene synthesis, antibody production, and supply of laboratory machines. Thermo Fisher provided us with a Thermocycler that we used for hundreds of PCRs as well as discounts for their products, which accelerted our work in the lab.
Twist Bioscience is specialized in DNA synthesis. By providing researchers with high-quality DNA synthesis as well as various tools and libraries, they aim to speed up innovation in fields such as medicine, agriculture, industrial chemicals, and data storage.
Founded in the mid-1970s as a collective of scientists committed to developing innovative products for the life sciences industry, NEB is now a recognized world leader in the discovery, development, and commercialization of recombinant and native enzymes for genomic research. Working in the spirit of “by scientists for scientists", NEB is renowned for consistently providing exceptional product quality and unsurpassed technical support. NEB has supported iGEM Teams worldwide for many years. We have received several kits and enzymes from New England Biolabs.
Based in Switzerland, Microsynth is one of the leading European companies in nucleic acid synthesis and analysis. They offer DNA/RNA oligo synthesis as well as Sanger and next-generation sequencing. Furthermore they offer running outsourced research projects from the fields of microbiology, genomics, molecular biology and bioinformatics.
Implen is a leading supplier for spectroscopy instruments and consumables for the non-destructive analysis of ultra-low volume samples. The company focuses on biological, chemical, and pharmaceutical laboratories in industry and research. Implen has a strong focus on the customer, taking pride in providing quality products and a high level of customer service to achieve total customer satisfaction. Implen is committed to developing cutting-edge equipment and consumables for spectroscopy applications, providing technically superior, high quality, and easy-to-use products. Implen provided us with a photometer, which we used for the analysis of our findings.
Geneious is a DNA, RNA, and protein sequence alignment, assembly, and analysis software that integrates bioinformatic and molecular biology tools into a simple interface. We were provided with their software which helped us design primers and plan our cloning.
Labfolder is an innovative software company that has developed a revolutionary platform to meet all the requirements of modern research. They have combined a digital laboratory journal and a laboratory information management system (LIMS) on one platform. Labfolder can be customized with free integrated applications that organize and selectively share content. They make a scientist's everyday life easier and research more efficient. Using Labfolder helped us to keep the overview of our work in the wetlab and to document our findings.
Jena Bioscience GmbH was founded in 1998 by a team of scientists from the Max-Planck-Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund. Since the start-up phase the company has evolved into a global reagent supplier with about 8,000 products in stock and a customer base in 80+ countries. Jena Bioscience serves many client groups including research laboratories at universities, industry, government, and hospital and provides them with high-quality enzymes and kits.
SnapGene was born of frustration based on avoidable mistakes in cloning procedures. In the 21st century, many molecular biologists still don't know the full properties of the DNA molecules they are using. SnapGene has set itself the challenge of solving this problem with good software. Working with labs around the world, they created software to meet the everyday needs of molecular biologists. Each discussion has generated new ideas, and SnapGene is still in active development.

The BioQuant, the Center for “Quantitative Analysis of Molecular and Cellular Biosystems” at Heidelberg University was established in 2007 as an interdisciplinary University research center that is solely dedicated to research and training in systems biology. BioQuants’s objective is to function as a platform for the development and constant refinement of mathematical models of complex biological systems as well as the swift validation of scientific hypotheses via experimental data. Currently, up to 40 University and non-University research groups (DKFZ, EMBL, the Heidelberg Institute for Theoretical Studies (HITS, formerly the European Media Lab), and the MPI for Medical Research) are affiliated with BioQuant. These research groups are instrumental in implementing numerous national and international systems biology funding initiatives.
