Collaborations

In our team, we believe that Synthetic Biology is more than creating on our own. Indeed, it's a culmination of hard work from many people, and it's about sharing the resources, ideas, and brainstorming among teams of researchers. Therefore, we are more than glad to establish collaborations with other iGEM teams from all over the world to exchange ideas and insights into one another's projects so that we can grow together.

- Thessaly

What's a better way to promote your project than to write a song for it? And this is exactly what iGEM Thessaly must have thought when invited us to participate in this collaboration. The musical score and the lyrics that they provided us were the only things that we needed. From our side, a member of our team played the song with his guitar. Our song made learning about Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) easier for everyone.

- Big Greek Meetup

If we can highlight an event that all Greek iGEM Teams expect every summer, this is undoubtedly the Big Greek Meet up. This year iGEM Thessaly undertook the difficult task of organizing this event. Even though the Meetup was held virtually, due to the pandemic, all Greek teams (Thessaly, Patras, Athens) participating in the 2020 iGEM Competition managed to be there. It was an excellent opportunity to meet each other, practice our presentation skills, discuss all the difficulties that we were facing, exchange ideas on synthetic biology, and present our projects. For iGEM Patras, the Big Greek Meet-up is a milestone, as it was the first time that we publicly presented "Project Hippocrates."

- Maastricht Science Programme (MSP)

Filming our Promotional Video was a real challenge for our team. Since no one in our group knows how to edit a video, our first thought was to hire a professional video editor. Fortunately, browsing through youtube, we discovered the channel of the iGEM MSP team, and we were very enthusiastic about their work. We immediately contacted them because we thought it would be a brilliant idea to create our promotional video together. After accepting our proposal, we decided to make a video call to meet each other and discuss all the technical details. During our brainstorming session, we presented our video's content, and they explained to us all the cinematic techniques(video animation, animation graphics, etc.) that we can use. Finally, what fitted us the most was to let a team member present our project on camera. When the filming was completed, we sent the video to Cyrille Sébert, the MSP's iGEM team member, who knows video editing and made it happen successfully.

- Project Promotion Video Translations

We deeply believe that the best way to communicate our project worldwide is to make our promotion video understandable by everyone. The first step towards this direction was to translate it into many different languages. Several iGEM teams (UPF_Barcelona, iGEM Moscow-Russia, NCKU_Tainan) offered to help us with that. Today, we are pleased to announce that "Project Hippocrates" is now available in Spanish, Russian and Chinese.

While discussing with UPF_Barcelona about the importance of spreading our projects as much as possible, they also suggested translating their project into Greek. Through translating the project "Hormonic," we learned about hormone regulation, and we made it accessible in the Greek community.

- CSMU_Taiwan and NCKU_Tainan iGEM Teams

Public Health Education plays a vital role in everyone's life, especially nowadays in the COVID-19 era. With that in mind, the iGEM teams of CSMU_Taiwan and NCKU_Tainan created a collaboration based on Public health eDucation, with the imaginative title "I've gotta PhD". Each team had to choose one of the eight proposed topics about public health to create articles, podcasts, art, etc. Our team created a poster about the basic health care topic, which aims to raise public awareness and highlight the importance of Public Health.

- Global iGEM Meetup

The online "Global Meetup," held in August, was an invaluable opportunity to meet other teams worldwide to exchange ideas about synthetic biology and discuss our next steps into the competition. We would like to thank the iGEM Headquarters for the invitation. You can watch our presentation "Implementation of SynBio into Clinical Practise" below.

- TUDelft

Educating people about synthetic biology is a goal of every iGEM team. In order to make it happen, iGEM TUDelft wanted to create an informative video in which as many iGEM teams as possible share their project to show what amazing things can be achieved by synthetic biology. In the "World of SynBio" video, every team explained their project, especially the problem they struggle to solve through synthetic biology. After that, the TUDelft iGEM team made a compilation of all these amazing ideas. Such an innovative idea to spread synthetic biology and its applications!

- Graphic Design for Scientists (Webinar)

An impressive graphic design is always the best way to promote your innovative idea. We thought that a webinar about making attractive designs and impress with your posts on social media would be very helpful to all iGEM teams. Our graphic designer made this idea come true! He spread his knowledge about graphic design in four iGEM teams (Thrace, NOUS, UPF_Barcelona, UPCH_Peru) whilst receiving great feedback. It was a unique experience to get in contact with people all around the world to share ideas about different technical issues.

- Mare Nostrum Meetup

It's official! For the first time in iGEM's history, a team from Patras organizes a Meetup. We are so thrilled that our team made this dream come true.

"Mare Nostrum Meetup" or the "Meetup of our Sea" as it is translated from Latin to English is referred to as the online event we held on the first weekend of October for all iGEM teams based on countries around the Mediterranean sea.

To spread the world of synthetic biology and its application to the public, we invited Professors, Postdoctoral Researchers, and Ph.D. candidates who informed us about Synthetic Biology, Genetics (Epigenetics, Pharmacogenomics), and Computer Science (Next Generation Sequencing-NGS). iGEM Alumni, Ambassadors, and Committee members, such as VRT Committee members and Judges, were also invited to our Meetup and shared their experiences with all the participants.

We also achieved another goal; we made our Meetup as fun as possible. Science quizzes, the game of "2 truths, 1 lie" and the challenge of creating an iGEM Meme were the only things we needed. Through these workshops, all participating teams learned more about synthetic biology, each country's culture, and the potential problems they may face as iGEMers.

Finally, all teams presented their projects and their teams. The outcome of the "Mare Nostrum iGEM Meetup" was amazing since we achieved another great goal; show everyone that science can unit nations! iGEM Teams (Thrace, NOUS, Ku Istanbul, Paris Saclay, Technion 2020) from three different continents - Europe, Africa, Asia - made it real.

- Eastern Mediterranean Meetup

iGEM competition gives you the opportunity to meet and cooperate with people from all around the world. We met the iGEM Technion team in the "Mare Nostrum" meetup, and we had an excellent collaboration. So, we couldn't miss the Mediterraneanearranean Meetup" on the 21st of October that they organized. What else would be more helpful than the fact that we could have a final rehearsal of our project before the Giant Jamboree! We also had the opportunity to get in touch with other iGEM teams while learning about their exciting projects was crucial for broadening our knowledge about synthetic biology applications. The highlight was the proper constructive criticism that we received from the iGEM team's mentors in order to enhance our presentation.

- Diagnostics track Global Meetup

The diagnostic track of the iGEM competition contains numerous teams every year with realistic and pioneer ideas. In order to exchange information about our projects, iGEM Warwick 2020 organized the Diagnostics track global Meetup on the 24th of October, and we had the honor to participate in it. We have already participated in 3 Meetups, but this one was different because we were participating only teams from the diagnostic track with the same goals and interests. It was a unique experience to share iGEM stories associated with diagnostic laboratories in the COVID-19 era while realizing that everyone faced the same difficulties in the Wet Lab part. Last but not least, we discussed our wiki pages and got some novel ideas for our presentation.
