Human Practices Overview

Human practices have been a core focus of our project throughout its entirety. Through them, we can improve the overall design of our project and be sure about the following two questions:

  • Is our project responsible and safe?
  • Can others work with our system efficiently?

An essential aspect of synthetic biology is the consideration of how technology applies to society. Not only do projects have to be responsible, but they have to be beneficial for the world. In order to think carefully and creatively about the impact of our project on our planet, we actively engage with scientists, experts, and the general public to ensure that our project serves the greater good of society. Our approach to human practices involved working with professionals to understand their opinions about our project’s various aspects. By using this feedback, we validate our project goals and upgrade our initial idea. Our work outside of the lab, including education projects, events for the public, and collaborations with other teams, was significant.

What makes a team decide to work on a project that combines two relatively new scientific fields like Pharmacogenomics and Artificial Intelligence? What are the obstacles that have to be overcome and the difficulties to be faced?

Through the following sections, we will answer all the possible questions and present all the steps that followed our team that started as a group of students attending the same Molecular Genetics & Pharmacogenomics course.
