The orthogonal test is an efficient and economical test design method with the characteristics of uniform dispersion and neat comparability. Based on the single-factor experiment, the temperature, the dosage of geniposide and glycine, and the time which mainly affect the reaction of geniposide were selected as the investigation factors. And the yield of gardenia blue was taken as the index to carry out the orthogonal experiment.

Table 1. Orthogonal test table:L4975
Table 2. Orthogonal test results and range analysis

The range analysis method determines the primary and secondary factors by comparing the range. The range refers to the difference between the maximum and minimum values of the test indicators’ average values, which correspond to each level of the factors in each column. According to the intuitive analysis, the four factors’ effect on the reaction of geniposide was D>A>C>B in the order of magnitude. It shows that the length of reaction time has the greatest impact on the yield of gardenia blue.
