Public Engagement

Waste in our environment is a big issue in our day and age. Therefore, we participated on the World Cleanup Day in Kaiserslautern. Just in our town, more than 80 kg of waste were collected over the course of 2 hours. We love the idea that in a single day everywhere in the world, people go through the streets and do their part to combat environmental pollution. We want to be contribute against this fight and we would be glad to see more people participate in the next years activities.

We were proud to help clean our town by participating in the world cleanup day in Kaiserslautern. It is a worldwide organization where a lot of people go through the streets and pick up the waste that was simply thrown away. In Kaiserslautern alone, we collected more than 80 kg of rubbish in two hours. The most commonly found rubbish was cigarette butts and paper. It is terrifying to see how much trash can be collected in so little time. We are happy to report that the current measure taken in Germany, bottle deposits, is helping to curtail plastic waste on the streets. In Germany, everyone pays a deposit for each bottle and as soon as the bottle is returned, the deposit is given back. Therefore, people are less likely to throw their money out the car window and keep the environment cleaner in the process. For more information go to the page of World Cleanup Day.
