Overview

BHSF has always been strict with safety problems, throughout lab, human and environment. Our team members were fully trained in comprehensive safety training before getting down to experiments.
Since our project is designed for food, food safety and biosafety was the key principle when we design our project, we kept these principles in mind when designing circuits, choosing organism, and we introduced safety modules to engineered microbe.

Safety training in lab

Before entering the laboratory, all of us seriously read and signed laboratory safety responsibility book. We accepted several experimental training under our instructor Zhe Feng and primary PI Tianze Zhu. After ensuring everyone to be familiar with protocols, we started our project.

Experiment safety

While doing experiments and operations, we were extremely careful, and follow the rules and protocols strictly, what’s more, there was always a professional faculty in the lab to ensure our safety.

We not only pay attention to the safety ourselves, we also made educational videos and articles to arose the concern of experiment safety and taught the students how to do operations correctly.

Organism Safety

Since our yeast is the ingredient of food, so we were concerned about food safety. We first had the idea of letting the yeast to produce poison to kill itself, but then gave up this idea because it was not safe.
All strains we used in our project does no harm to the human body or environment.
Laboratory wastes are uniformly treated by professional institute, preventing risks to the environment.
