Project's Description
Our project is a very useful application of synthetic biology. Kudzu is very prevalent in the southeastern United States, and if it were completely eradicated, then the competition from kudzu that native species have to face would go away with it. This would allow the native species to reclaim land, food, water, and other necessary resources. Our goal is to eradicate kudzu in areas that it has invaded, which can happen with the application of phytotoxin phaseolotoxin. Phytotoxin phaseolotoxin does not have severe dangers associated with fire, roundup, or other means of eradicating kudzu. Our inspiration for this project came from seeing a problem that plagues our area. COVID-19 made us unable to carry out our wet lab work.
