The topic of wildlife protection has once again become one of the hottest topics in society during this epidemic. In order to promote the knowledge and concepts of wildlife protection, the SCU_WestChina team cooperated with the highly creative college student volunteer service organization SK Sunny to jointly plan and carry out a series of public welfare activities related to wildlife protection.

Cooperate with SK Sunny on public welfare activities
The theme of our charity event is "There will be no winners after the gunfire". Around this theme, our team cooperated with SK Sunny's Sichuan University team and thought about innovative public welfare activities through brainstorming. During the event, we released and collected 820 online questionnaires to jointly manage and operate online public welfare communities. We also jointly launched: fun psychological tests, video dubbing, and a wildlife-themed communication activity named "Order a Wild Animal to Your Friend".

What makes us proud is that our team members also created a series of paintings based on endangered wild animals and cooperated with SK Sunny for charity sale. In the end, after negotiation, both of us decided to donate the proceeds to Chengdu in the name of SK Sunny Longqiao Black Bear Rescue Center.

Official Accounts—Establish "WeChat Official Account" "Huaxi iGEM"
The SCU_West China team pays close attention to the progress of the COVID-19 epidemic and the latest scientific research breakthroughs. While continuously receiving and obtaining the latest information about the epidemic, team members asked whether we can also inform the public of the complex information we have obtained in a more understandable way.
Therefore we established the account "Huaxi IGEM" through the new media platform "WeChat Official Account" and used this to convey to the public the information about the progress of the epidemic, epidemic prevention measures, scientific research breakthroughs, etc.
We have been working to deliver the scientific knowledge we know to the public in a more understandable form. We think this is a very meaningful thing to use the professional knowledge of our team members. Through the establishment of this official account, more people have learned about IGEM and the related work being done by our team.

Online lectures for primary and middle school students
At the end of September 2020, our team organized an online seminar to promote relevant medical knowledge about pneumoconiosis. This lecture was mainly for primary and middle school students, and eventually more than 500 students participated in our lecture.

Before the lecture, we distributed a questionnaire to understand their understanding of pneumoconiosis. We collected a total of 201 questionnaires. Through the analysis of the questionnaire results, we found that the public did not understand the causes of pneumoconiosis. Sixty-five percent of people believed that smoking would cause pneumoconiosis, and 67% did not know the incomplete cure of pneumoconiosis.

After distributing the questionnaire, our team carried out the basic knowledge of pneumoconiosis and pulmonary fibrosis for the students participating in the lecture, including the causes of the disease, prevention methods, and symptoms of the disease. After this session, we introduced IGEM to them and explained the basic concepts of synthetic biology.
At the end of the lecture, we collected the questions of the students who participated in the online lecture and provided detailed answers to their questions. After the meeting, we conducted a feedback survey on some students and most of the students gave a high evaluation of this lecture.
