During the design and perfect of our project, we consulted many professors, all of them with great experience in tissue repair or drug design.
1. Dr. Fan-Hong
Introduction: Chief physician, professor, doctoral supervisor in West China Hospital
Expertise:Severe lung infection and precision treatment; Lung injury and fibrosis repair intervention
mechanism.
Dr. Fan-Hong has been engaged in frontline clinical work as well as medical teaching for a long
time. She is responsible for a number of national and international cooperative research projects.
Interview Content: We visited Professor Fan-Hong to learn more about the background and
treatment status of pulmonary interstitial fibrosis disease. Also, we gained suggestions and
positive comments on our drug
design strategy from Dr. Fan. She praised our focus on major human diseases and believed that our
strategy of choosing TGF-β receptor truncation to block the progression of lung fibrosis is
meaningful.
What’s more, she emphasized the extension of clinical value of our drug design and believed that our
drug would not only be useful for IPF treatment but also be useful for progressive pulmonary
fibrosis,
which is a disease with a large number of patients, difficult treatment, and rapid progress under
specific stimulation.
2. Dr. Tong-Xiang
Introduction: Doctor of respiratory medicine in West China Hospital
In order to learn more about this pulmonary fibrosis disease and pay attention to the needs of
patients, we interviewed Dr. Tong who has extensive experience in the treatment of lung
diseases.
We discussed the feasibility
of choosing macrolide antibiotics as probes for targeted macrophages, Dr. Tong generously shared his unpublished data and treatment experience, which gave us great inspiration for drug design. What’s more, he introduced the current
development status of pulmonary fibrosis treatment to us. From his perspective, the biggest challenge for the treatment of this disease is that we currently lack solutions for the end-stage pulmonary fibrosis and the fibrosis cannot
be reversed. So it is meaningful to pay more attention to patients with pulmonary fibrosis and put effort on drug design.
3. Dr. Wan-Huajing
Introduction: Master Instructor in Sichuan University
Expertise: Molecular mechanism of lung development.
Interview Content: As an expert of lung development, she provided us with new ideas for drug evaluation. She believed that the construction of lung organoids is conducive to our drug screening and efficacy evaluation.
4. Laboratory Visit
Transplantation and Immune Engineering Laboratory
Professor Yang-Hao in this laboratory offered help in protein sequential optimization and expression system selection. Also, this is a professional platform for protein expression and purification, which greatly improves our efficiency.
Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering Laboratory
Professor Xie-Huiqi has given us a long-term experimental scheme guide and help us with construction of the finite element mode.
