Collaborations

In this iGEM season, our XHD-ShanDong-China team collaborated with other iGEM teams frequently throughout preparation for the contest. We have collaborated with WHU-China, XHD-Wuhan-China, HZAU-China in several forms, including Meets up, lab collaborations. These collaborations have played indispensable role in our path of better completing our other teams’ projects.

Since our team instructor Xuting Wang is a teacher from HZAU, we established close relationship with HZAU-China team, which is our meta-advising team. The collaboration with HZAU-China iGEM team has been pivotal in both designing and conducting our experiment. Their supports provided us was crucial to the redesign of our project. We appreciate this opportunity of collaboration very much. Without it, we would have wasted much time and would have met many technical difficulties.

Collaborations on project design
  • 1. They assisted us in screening the upstream regulatory gene cpxR of the heat-resistant gene degP
  • 2. For the selection of the contribution part and the improvement part, in order to take into account the integrity of our project, it was HZAU-China who found two parts related to our project, which Make our project design more complete.
Collaborations on experimental techniques
  • 1. Sharing of λRed gene editing technology and Homologous Recombination technology experience
  • 2. Provide us with tool plasmids pKD13 and pKD46
  • 3. Shared experimental instrument platform
  • 4. The process of experiment: in order to help us on the experiment efficiency, HZAU team taught us how to arrange the experiment to obtain results with higher efficiency.
Project cooperation
  • 1. We interacted closely with XHD-Wuhan-China throughout iGEM 2020. We peer viewed each other’s safety form and gave feedback. They also helps us a lot in experiments.
  • 2. Because the summer vacation of our team was earlier than XHD-Wuhan -China, we helped them do the basic preparation for the experiment.
  • 3. We helped XHD-Wuhan-China successfully construct the plasmid for the characterization of the components.
WiKi troubleshoot help by XHD-Wuhan-China

Our team encountered a very difficult problem when we first started wiki editing. When we tried to edit the main page of the team, we accidentally deleted the topbar, which made it impossible for us to enter the editing page of the web page from this tool. Because this page is the main page, it can't be abandoned. We tried many ways to solve this problem, but we didn't make progress. We asked for the help of XHD-Wuhan-China, they found that if we replaced the name of the team in their homepage with our name, we could directly enter the editing page of our team. So we used this method to retrieve the editing page of our team's homepage, and restored the code. Finally, we restored our home page to normal.

Meet up with XHD-Wuhan-China and WHU-China

On August 10, 2020, our team attend an offline meet up with the XHD-Wuhan-China and WHU-China in Wuhan, China. Each of our groups introduced the progress and plan of their respective projects, and we also discussed other promotion projects and competition plans that did not have time to complete the experiment due to the epidemic situation.

Finally, we and XHD-Wuhan-China exchanged questionnaires of the two teams to help each group collect survey data. Members also left contact information with each other to help discuss problems in the later experimental process, share resources and exchange valuable experience.
