Medal Checklist
We believe that we have met the medal requirements for a Gold Medal. Please find below a summary of what we have done as well as links to the respective pages.
Bronze Medal Criteria
- Competition Deliverables: We have completed 4 of the 5 deliverables and will complete the poster by the due date. Here's a link to our judging form.
- Attributions: Our project idea was a novel idea from the members of our team. However, we received help from various people such as our PI, Instructors, the EPA, Revive and Restore, etc. Please read more about them on our Attributions page.
- Project Description: We chose our project because we realized that the issues of plastic pollution and coastal erosion continually plague our country Ghana. Please read more about this on our Project Description page.
- Contribution: This season, we worked on a two-phase project for iGEM. While this was filled with many ups and downs, we learned a lot that we would like to share with future iGEM teams, particularly African teams. Please read more about this on our Contribution page.
Silver Medal Criteria
- Engineering Success: Even though we couldn't make it to the lab this iGEM season, we came up with predicted lab routines that next year's team could follow. On our Engineering Success page, named Predicted Lab Work as well, we outline these lab routines.
- Collaboration: We worked with wonderful teams from all over the world such as Exeter iGEM, iGEM Team Heidelberg, and TU Delft. Please read more about these collaborations on our Collaborations page.
- Human Practices: Throughout this season, we had several iterations that helped us determine that our project is good for Ghana, Africa, and the rest of the world. What started off as an idea became a concept for the betterment of society. Please read more on our Human Practices page.
- Proposed Implementation: We had some meetings with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Ghana to help us figure out how to implement our project. Please read about this on our Proposed Implementation page.
Gold Medal Criteria
- Partnership: Throughout this season, we worked closely with two iGEM teams: iGEMINI from Toulouse and UCL iGEM. Our decisions affected each other's projects, and we all benefited from the respective partnerships. Please read more about this on our Partnership page.
- Science Communication: As students without a college-level biology background, we thought that it would be useful to come up with a board game that could be played by high school students, and people who aren't familiar with biology concepts, to teach them the fundamentals of synthetic biology concepts. Please read more about our game, Board-o-Bact, here.
- Integrated Human Practices: Since we weren't in the lab this season, we had more time to focus on our Human Practices and make sure that our project was influenced and shaped every step of the way by relevant research and major stakeholders. Please read more here.
