Eastern China Online Meetup
This is the first time we have participated in the exchange meeting about IGEM, that is, Eastern China Online Meet-up. It is really a new and interesting experience. In this event, we listened to the project presentations of different teams and gained a lot. In order to achieve further cooperation, after this gathering, we deliberately contacted the leader of Jiangnan_China team. We talked a lot , and our team had a deeper understanding and better positioning of their project, especially their experimental design and HP part.

A Virtual Tea Party With Jiangnan_China
Today, our team BUCT and Jiangnan_China team held a virtual tea party on the Tencent Conference App. The conversation lasted more than two hours and the effect was very good. First, we introduced our project in detail. Students from Jiangnan_China gave us a high evaluation, which made us very encouraged. Secondly, after fully understanding their projects, we joyfully discovered many opportunities for cooperation and long-term partnership. Both of our projects are closely related to cyanobacteria, and are in the upstream and downstream relationship. Jiangnan_China team tried to produce sophorolipid to degrade cyanobacteria. Despite this treatment, cyanobacteria seem to have been successfully killed, but the toxins released from them cannot be properly disposed. At the same time, our team BUCT plans to produce microcystin-degrading enzymes, and use the Jiangnan team’s suspension containing dead algae and toxins, to test whether the enzymes are successfully produced and their degradation effects. At the end of this meeting, we also got a lot of suggestions from Jiangnan_China team, especially on the detection method of algal toxin. We will hold and take part in more similar activities in the future to cultivate long-term and close collaboration relationships.

Southwestern Union Meet-up
As the organizer, we held this online exchange meeting, that is, "Southwestern Union Meet-up”. There are six IGEM teams participating, including BUCT, SCU_China, SiCAU_China, UESTC_China, UESTC_Software (two teams) and XJTU_China. During this meeting, we introduced our respective projects in order and discussed the problems encountered when preparing for IGEM. Besides, all the teams discussed their understanding of IGEM and its competition rules. This meet-up was very successful, for each team has learned some experience from it. At the end, we reached a cooperation with the Sichuan University team. We provided lots of ideas and expanded their HP part. And they put forward a lot of important suggestions to us, especially on the feasibility of practical application, like how much cyanophages should be put into the water body and how much unnatural amino acids need to be put into the control of cyanophages.

Five School Union Meet-up
We held another online exchange meet-up, namely “Five School Union Meet-up”. This time we invited other four IGEM teams from National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), Second Military Medical University (SMMU) and Ocean University of China (OCU_China). The first part of the meeting is for each team to introduce their respective projects. The projects of the five teams are different, but we all exude our own charm. Next is the questioning session. As a new team first for IGEM, we BUCT are still very immature and have many doubts. Therefore, we had frequent communication with the other four teams, and therefore learned a lot of experience, including but not limited to experimental design and mathematical modeling. Holding this event has enhanced many of our capabilities. It benefited us a lot.

Beijing IGEMer Exchange Meeting
Under the current special situation, we participated in the Beijing iGEMer Exchange Meeting held by CAU_China through Zoom. This is indeed a precious opportunity. We had the opportunity to meet other iGEMers in Beijing and learn about their projects. They have offered us many opinions and suggestions, such as the safety, reliability of our project. We have benefited a lot from this, because these suggestions involve the possibility of practical application of our project and issues that need attention. What’s more, all teams talked about various difficulties encountered and how to solve. We encouraged and supported each other. In addition, we are very lucky to chat with Dorothy Zhang, who is a member of IGEM HP Committee and IGEM Ambassador in 2019. She spoke highly of the effectiveness and significance of this meeting. Generally speaking, CAU_China held an impressive exchange meeting, and we are committed to continue participating in and supporting this kind of meetings in the future!

An Online Meeting with NEFU_China
This time we cooperated with Northeast Forestry University and held an online conference. The first part of the meeting was the introduction of NEFU_China's project. What they did was directed evolution, and they shared their directed evolution part and experimental verification in detail. Next, we team BUCT introduced our project. The members of NEFU_China give us a high a rating. They said our project is not only an innovative idea, but also a practical project design. After that, we had a heated discussion. We collided with new ideas, that is to say, in the future, while solving the environmental problems of cyanobacteria, we can also use the characteristics of lytic bacteria to change the internal genes of cyanobacteria, so as to solve this general environmental problem more. In addition, we also exchanged HP cooperation experience with them. Last but not the least, their PPT is very good, and we have learned some PPT skills from their experience.
