Team Edinburgh Finding NEMO

Stanford

We had several video calls, including one meet-up on the 15th of September to decide how we can help each other in developing projects, followed by two video calls with a lab member on the 30th and 6th of October. During the video calls and subsequent messages, both teams decided to help each other with wet-lab results. Our team wanted to achieve reproducibility of our DNA constructs so we sent them a list of needed sequences to be synthesized and reagents to be bought as well as a detailed lab protocol. Subsequently, Team Stanford wanted help with testing their toehold switch, they provided us the toehold switch sequence and we attempted to test it in the lab using an sfGFP as a signal molecule. Due to time constraints and a reduced number of people allowed in the lab due to the pandemic, we only managed to assemble the toehold sequence, while testing results would be in only after the wiki freeze. Similarly, the Stanford Team has almost finished the constructs and is ready to provide the results in the following weeks after the wiki freeze.

Besides wet lab collaboration, we provided feedback and advice on the development of their project. Furthermore, we also attempted to transform their mathematical model into python code.

Unsung Hero

There is a team among all the teams that participated in the meta-analysis, that participated in many of our different initiatives. This team made multiple and various contributions during the year and we believe it was a key component to our team's success in terms of Human Practices. Since we guaranteed anonymity to all the teams in the meta-analysis, we cannot give public recognition or celebrate this anonym team, and even if we are disappointed about that we are making sure to provide our most sincere appreciation to this team privately.
