Overview

There is a saying that two heads are better than one. We hope to generate new ideas and improve existing problems through the communication with more iGEMers. During this process, we were excited to learn and share our knowledge and resources with iGEM teams.

USTC-Software

University of Science and Technology of China

USTC-Software’s project is Protein molecular simulation toolchian: Starting from the gene to predict the protein structure, analyzing the contained target and then putting it into simulations such as DTI to give the drug junction.

On August 2nd,we held our first online communication meeting to know more about mutual projects. In this progress, we found that we can give them some protein sequences to help predict the protein structure. And also, they fed back the results to us. We can get more information from them.

NWU-CHINA-A

Northwest University

Project name: The revengers to pathogenic bacteria

At the CCiC meeting, we met the team of NWU-CHINA-A. During the conversation, we learned that their project was about antimicrobial peptides. At the same time, they showed great interest in our project.

On September 9th, we held our first online communication meeting. We shared our project progress and showed them our scientific and interesting building blocks——Probrick. They asked us some questions to know more about the using methods. We invited them to do our game Protein Brick test, and they gave us the feedback.

In a follow-up exchange, they offered to design a map of the protein domain for us, and in return, we designed a badge map that featured their project for the NWU-CHINA-A team.

Tongji-Software

Tongji University

As a software team in China, we had contact with Tongji_Software at the beginning of the project. In the early stage, we have been using social platforms for communication, and have participated in the Software exchange meeting of China and CCiC meeting together.

On August 9th, we had a conference online to discuss the enzyme parameters that can be optimized, such as Gibbs free energy. Because the pathways found thier software consist of various enzymes, there is opportunity for us to collaborate in this field.

Later in the project, we invited them to do our game Protein Brick test, and they gave us the feedback.

HZAU-China

Huazhong Agricultural University

Wiki Resources Collaboration

In the iGEM wiki communication group, we are very honorable to meet the member of HZAU_China. On the September 20th, we contacted them through social media platforms and shared our experiences on the designing of wiki. Through conversations, they suggested that we are able to adjust the font size and the arrangement of pictures to make it more interesting for readers. We also invited them to use our CPD3DS. After experiencing it, they gave us their opinions on the improvement of the project and they indicated that CPD3DS would be of great use.

During Wiki Freeze's upcoming month, we help each other by alerting and communicating at each important time point.

Science for All Alliance

Due to the impact of the COVID-19, in the early stages of this year’s competition, offline lectures and other forms that were often held in the past could not be carried out, so we began to focus on using online new media methods to promote related science.

In the communication with BIT and SCUT_China , we discussed and thought about how to make iGEMer 's science communication work more profound and effective. We got a lot of inspiration from our communication with them and promoted each other's research content on each pages. We founded the Science for All Alliance for common long-term goals and sustainable development of iGEMers' science communication.

Survey&Feedback

In the Software testing stage, we invited many iGEM teams and related workers to use our Software and put forward suggestions for improvement, including Tongji-Software, BIT-China, SJTU-software, developers with relevant experience and so on. They all gave us sincere suggestions for use, and our project was further improved under their suggestions.

For example, SJTU-software reported that working with proteins in our project was fun and educational! If there is anything that can be improved, the color is a little too saturated. It would be better to beautify the interface a little bit.

Tongji-Software gave a lot of suggestions on many details of user experience, including changing font style, enriching function description and optimizing content structure.

BIT put forward some advice on the use of functions, such as refactoring the tutorial to give users more precise help. The interviewed developer emphasizes the optimization of page loading efficiency and color matching issues.

We created the game-Protein Brick with domain splicing simulation as the main content, and released the game to multiple teams for testing. We also made improvements based on their feedback. The current game experience has been greatly improved.

For example, tester from Tongji-Software, recommended reducing the difficulty of the game to accommodate users who have little knowledge of domain splicing, and also put forward some strategies adding domain annotations in 3D Lab to optimize the effect of education. We value all suggestions made by testers and have made improvements. We would like to express our sincere thanks to these teams and helpers for their suggestions. Their sincere feedback made CPD3DS more and more perfect.
