We aim to develop a P. acnes killing product which not only cures acne vulgaris but also avoids eliciting antibiotic resistance in acne pathogenic bacteria.
Our product consists of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) that eliminate P. acnes, and adhesive and cohesive proteins that allow bio coating formation. Because the adhesive proteins rely on tyrosinase to carry out their function, we designed two different mechanisms of synthesis: expressing adhesive proteins in Picha pastoris and tyrosinase in E. coli, then modify the protein extracellularly; and expressing both adhesive proteins and tyrosinase in E. coli, so that the secretion would function without further modifications.

Further modifications will be made for the improvement of our product. To prevent the ripping off of the thin film formed by our product from causing discomfort, we plan to synthesize protease, which dissolves the bio coating easily. Additionally, we aim to integrate our product with PHA material recommended by 2020 NWU-CHINA-A to form a band-aid like commodity and increase its portability and convenience of use.
