Many of those suffering from acne vulgaris nowadays do not know where to seek for appropriate treatments. Those who choose not to go to dermatologists would usually resort to the supposedly “acne treatments” online. A measurable amount of those treatments, or, to be precise, “beauty tips” are not authentic, not suitable for certain people’s conditions, or even harmful: applying cooking soda mixed with coconut oil rewards users with instant lessening of pimples, but hurts the skin and makes it more delicate in the long run; external medication do not offer significant improvement to people whose acne is one of the numerous results of hormone disorder, which needs to be treated with drugs like antiandrogens; and acne treatment within dangerous pregnancy categories such as oral tetratonin and tetracycline may cause severe harm to pregnant women. An approach for reliable self-diagnose and treatment is needed, and many conditions need to be considered before selecting a treatment.
In order to provide people suffering acne with a convenient approach to obtain effective treatment recommendations, we programmed an applet with reference to the 2019 Chinese Acne Treatment Guideline. During the construction of the applet, we consulted one of the employees at Yidu Cloud, a biology data processing and development company, and borrowed one of their application templates. The resulting applet gathers related information (including age, gender, symptom, hormones, pregnancy, and so on) via a short questionnaire and draws out the corresponding treatment recommendation plan based on the input information.
