Lab Safety
Laboratory requirements

Firstly, the lab has a printed laboratory notebook that covers all standard molecular experiment protocols, which is the guideline for our team members to follow in the lab and during the experiment. Secondly, before the experiments, every team member must pass the test covering Safety Operating Rules for BSL-1 laboratories, which ensures that each team member would be at least familiar with the security in the lab. The instructed rules include the prohibited actions in the lab, the emergency safety measures, laboratory fire safety, the storage and use of hazardous chemicals, the disposal of laboratory waste, the daily management of the laboratory, and the notes for the use of laboratory instruments. Lastly, our laboratory also qualifies the professional standards for performing and conducting basic molecular biological experiments and low-risk microbiological experiments.

Products safety

Since our products are to be used on the skin, our team would make efforts to address safety concerns in both our lab and for our product users. Firstly, The microorganisms P. pastoris GS115, E. coli BL21, E. coli DH5alpha, E .coli MG1655 we used in our projects are not pathogens, they all are whitelist species and commercial strains that use widely in laboratories. Secondly, our products are mixtures of adhesive/cohesive proteins and the chosen antimicrobial peptides, applying our products to the real world won't induce any other risks except causing the deaths of some other microbes in the environment.

Training

All of our team members must complete a series of training prior to the start of our work under the instructions labeled on the booklet and by our teachers. After proper trainings, our team members have all passed the safety test of our lab, including a multiple-choice exam and an in-lab operation test.
