Our team strived to engage with the general public by appearing on various channels informing both the general public and scientists about our project. With these interviews, articles, blogs, and other appearances, we aimed to expand our outreach as much as possible and draw attention to synthetic biology and Rapidemic to have an open conversation with the public. Voorschotense Krant

A team member was interviewed by the Voorschotense Krant, a local newspaper from her hometown, issued weekly. It was a fun experience to have a try with a very local outreach. Often, people recognized the person involved, which made it engaging in a special way.

Two team members were interviewed about Rapidemic and promoted our crowdfunding in an article from the Mare, a weekly newspaper mainly covering news from the academic field of Leiden. Since this paper is read by many students, it is the perfect way to get involved with our 'collegues', talking about our project.

Radio Interviews
Sleutelstad FM - Science071
9 September 2020
Sleutelstad FM interviewed one of our team members in their 'Science071' item. Sleutelstad FM broadcasts music and local news within Leiden and surrounding areas. Their item 'Science071', for which we were invited, is broadcasted every Wednesday evening via radio and TV. 'Science071' puts scientists from Leiden in the spotlight by interviewing them, making it accessible for a broad audience. The opportunity to present our project and crowdfunding in this fascinating environment in which a bridge is built between science and the general public was amazing.
BNR Radio
8 September 2020
One of our team members was interviewed by the Business News Radio (BNR), which was the first radio interview of our team. BNR radio focusses on broadcasting news consecutively during the day. Since BNR is not a local broadcasting radio, it was a very exciting way to expand our outreach tremendously!

Study association KNPSV

Another feature by a study association, this time from the Koninklijke Nederlandse Pharmaceutische Studenten Vereniging (KNPSV) about our project and crowdfunding. The KNPSV is the study association for all Farmacy or (Bio-)Pharmaceutical Sciences students in the Netherlands. As a larger part of our members are Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences students, it was a huge opportunity to connect with this association.

Bionieuws is a magazine for biologists. This newspaper published science news, interviews, opinions, education and articles about companies involved in life sciences. Our article on their website was a great opportunity to spread news about our project in a more general, yet scientific biology-educated audience.

Study association CDL website

The Chemisch Dispuut Leiden (CDL) mentioned us on their website in an article about our project and crowdfunding. The CDL is the study association for Molecular Science and Technology, a combined study at Leiden University and Delft Technical University. Since one of our members was involved with the study association, it was a simple and fun way of connecting with other students via their website.

Another interview by our University about our project, this time more related to the crowdfunding we just started around that period. The article was published on the main page of Leiden University. The crowdfunding felt like a new chapter for our project, as we became more involved in press since launching it. At this moment, we realized how attracted the public was to our project, which gave a very positive note and a motivational boost.
Study association S.V. LIFE newsletter

The S.V. LIFE study association featured us in their online newsletter, as well as on their LinkedIn page. The short article explains our project and promoted our crowdfunding. S.V. LIFE is the study association of Life Science and Technology, a combined study at University Leiden and Delft University of Technology. Since some of the students from our team are connected to this association, it was a very fitting way of promoting our project!

Leiden university published this news item to promote our online lecture for NGL. We presented iGEM, our team and our project to a group of passionate scientists involved in biology. Youth Educational Forum

Through one of our members, we were interviewed by the Youth Educational Forum (YEF). The North Macedonian organization is a youth community that has established the first youth internet radio in North Macedonia; radio MOF. We made an appearance on their web page. This was another example of how far our outreach was expanding, in a completely different country.
Leiden University Project Reveal

The very first interview with our team was conducted by our university. The article describes our project reveal and was published on the Leiden University online news page. With this interview, we officially opened up to the public about our project plans for the first time.

We wrote blogs regularly for Biotechnologie.nl, engaging with the general public and taking them along our iGEM adventures. To be able to blog with the other Dutch teams and share our paths with the public was interesting. The reader gained different insights on synthetic biology by reading through a broad spectrum of iGEM team blogs, as well as specific information about our project.
