CONTRIBUTION DAY

November 21, 2020

#iGEMContributionDay

Let’s look ahead to the future of synthetic biology. Contribution day is all about exploring the wider role of synthetic biology in the world and how we can contribute to this field. Together, we will draft both a personal and community roadmap of the next decade of synthetic biology. We will do this by exploring our five pillars: governance, innovation, sustainability, accessibility, and knowledge. We will be inspired by keynotes, participate in workshops, find out how to stay connected After iGEM, and learn from one another.

Thank you for attending the first ever iGEM Contribution Day!

There is still time to add our community roadmap! Community Roadmap to 2030 Survey:

What is contribution day all about? Watch this video to find out!

The Five Pillars for the Future of Synthetic Biology

Governance

Governance Keynote: Dr. Margaret Hamburg

Governance is about the collective responsibility we share to promote the safe and ethical use of our technology. Join this pillar to explore how policy can keep up with technology in the next 10 years, and your role in connecting the synthetic biology community to the rest of the world.

Innovation

Innovation Keynote: Dr. Mary Maxon

Innovation is about the development of applied synthetic biology solutions that address unmet needs and challenges in our society. The iGEM Competition is at the forefront of the global bio economy. Join this pillar to explore the next 10 years of synthetic biology innovation, and your role in the bio economy.

Sustainability

Sustainability Keynote: Dr. Elizabeth Bennett

Sustainability is about the development of sustainable synthetic biology projects that help us build a society that meets the needs of all people within the means of our planet. Join this pillar to explore the next 10 years of synthetic biology sustainability, and your role in a transition to a sustainable future.

Accessibility

Accessibility Keynote: Dr. Ellen Jorgensen

Accessibility is about making sure that the tools that we create, and the community we build, are for the many, not the few. Join this pillar to explore ways to open science over the next 10 years, and your role in inviting more of the world to be a part of the story of synthetic biology.

Knowledge

Knowledge Keynote: Dr. Megan Palmer

Knowledge is the generation of collective wisdom, skills, and tools of synthetic biology, that allow us to discover and build new technology. Join this pillar to explore how experimentation will change in the next 10 years, and your role in creating and analyzing the data that will shape our future.
